- "Bayan was great! She led the discussions in a really helpful style and was always understanding. The amount of knowledge she has on the region helped me to understand the complexities better."
- "Very knowledgeable on the topic, always facilitated great conversations in section. Always understanding of circumstances that may arise for students."
- "Bayan is incredibly knowledgeable and I believe I am better off for having had a section with her. Overall one of the best TFs Ive had at Yale."

"african independence: a cup of plenty or a poisoned chalice?" undergraduate lecture w/ prof. benedito machava [fall 2021]
- "Bayan structured section meetings in such a way that we were highly encouraged to participate and engage with the material. In some other sections that I've taken, it's easy to just sit there for 45 minutes and space out, but Bayan (through small group activities, engaging discussion questions, etc.) prevented that from happening! She was also very available for office hours and helpful in writing my paper and answering any questions I had about the course material. Weaknesses: Basically none. I was so surprised at the end of the semester when she said that this was her first section ever, since she had led it so well! Bayan is absolutely AMAZING and truly inspired me to work hard in this course and bring my best to section every week in order to be prepared for her teaching. I feel so lucky to have had such a fantastic TF."
- "Bayan did a great job of curating the discussion in my section, and I really enjoyed coming every week. In particular, I appreciated when she pushed back against excessively judging historical figures and said our job was to understand their situation and incentives. She was also prompt at grading. Overall, she was enthusiastic and kind to students!"
- "Bayan was an amazing TF -- I was so shocked to hear that it was her first time teaching because she is so natural and well-prepared in the classroom. Rather than just have random discussions about the reading like I do in other classes, Bayan usually prepared some probing questions or small-group activities so that everyone actually got involved in section and had something to say. Some of our sections were dedicated to certain themes (gatekeeper state or corrective regimes) and we actually got to go through concepts as a group and create study guides or timelines. Then, we'd leave class with tangible plans for how to write papers or study a concept for the final. It was one of my favorite sections ever and I will miss it!"
- "Bayan is a great Teaching Fellow. She was really attentive during sections, and her comments helped our group engage with the class material in a profound way. Her feedback on my assignments helped me to improve myself both as a writer and a historian. In my opinion she doesn't have any weaknesses and as a senior I can say that she is one of the best TA's I had the chance to work with."
- "Bayan was excellent. Easily one of the best TFs I've had at Yale. Where to begin?! She actually planned out section so that conversation was structured and useful to students. She went out of her way to provide resources that would be helpful to students in completing assignments. She held office hours and was always willing to work with you on papers. She also brought a wealth of lived experience and knowledge about Sudan as well as other parts of Africa. Overall, she made the course for me!"
